Christmas is past once again. “Where did it go?” It has come and gone and I feel I have missed something. As a child Christmas seemed to never come. The entire month of December was magical, especially perusing the toy catalog and writing with enthusiasm your letter to Santa Claus. “I’ve been good this year…I would like….!” I never got a letter from Santa, but I didn’t care, I knew he was real. Now as an adult Christmas turns into a race against the calendar, running so much you forget what it is all about. The magic is definitely gone. So on this post-Christmas day I trudge to my mailbox mourning the missed joy of the holiday and dreading the chore of cleaning up. I open my mail box and find a single red envelope inside.
I didn’t pay much attention to the envelope and trudge back into my messy house. I turned the envelope over and saw that it had a North Pole postmark! How curious! There was only one thing I knew about the North Pole and that it was cold; besides WHO would be writing to me from the North Pole. I slowly slit open the envelope and pulled out a single paged letter. A letter to me dated the day after Christmas. I quickly looked at the signature and gasped, it was signed by Father Christmas, also known as Santa Claus. I knew that kids wrote letters to Santa but here I held in my hand a letter FROM Santa! What would he need to say to me….
Dear Sally,
I have been watching you since you were little and remember the many letters you wrote. I even remembered that you always wanted to visit the North Pole to see Santa Claus and my elves. I know you never thanked me in a letter for my gifts, but I could see the thanks in your excited face and the joy in your eyes.
I know this letter from Father Christmas is a bit unusual, but I felt it was time. Time to bring that excitement back to your face and especially your eyes. Time for you to remember what it was like to be a child who writes a letter to Santa and sends it on its way to the North Pole.
What advice do I have for you? Children all over the world have the answer. There are so many children that would love a letter from Santa, but it would take me all year to write that many letters. So they let me go about my work and they just BELIEVE! They believe in Santa Claus. They believe in the magic I create. They believe in what I do, to bring joy to all children AND adults. Believing brings the magic and that happiness to their faces and hearts. Believing in Santa brings the magic back into the holidays that you have so missed.
So in this little letter from Santa, just remember one thing: BELIEVE in me! Then you will find the happiness of the holiday season that you seek.
Love,
Father Christmas
Wow, a letter from Santa written to ME! Hmmm, Believe, I think I can do that. Yes, I CAN! I BELIEVE IN SANTA CLAUS! Boy, I can’t wait for next Christmas!
